Ms Vodianova, who is clearly up for any kind of challenges is now cast in her first lead acting role opposite Jonathan Rhys-Meyers in the upcoming Belle du Seigneur, which is based on Albert Cohen’s bestselling 1968 French novel of the same name. Natalia Vodianova plays a married Swiss woman who has a love affair with a Jewish diplomat (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers) on the brink of WW2.
Ms Vodianova’s performance as the snake-headed, snake-tailed Medusa in last year’s Clash of the Titans, was the role that set her off to the fascinating world of actordom. And even if Clash of the Titans ended up being a bit of a turkey, it did give Natalia Vodianova the opportunity to put her foot between the big and demanding door of Hollywood.
Many late and current models have attempted to get into acting. Liya Kebede’s Desert Flower, Agyness Deyn’s Mean to Me and Natalia Vodianova’s Clash of the Titans portrayed genius acting talent by which the models duly took their place in the competitive world of acting. In addition to the latter, many other models have started their shift from the catwalk to a different kind of medium.
The filming of Belle du Seigneur is set to begin this month in different locations around Europe, starting in Geneva and then moving to Italy. The film’s director is first-timer Glenio Bonder, who has done commercials for Calvin Klein in the past. So this is not the first time the director and lead actress have worked together. Sounds like that might be recipe enough for success.
Let’s see how Natalia Vodianova takes on her role, as it’s significantly more serious than her previous role as Medusa. The release date of Belle du Seigneur is currently scheduled for no sooner than 2012. But in the meantime, let’s discuss. What do you think of Natalia Vodianova’s talent as an actress? Do you think she knows how to work film as well as she works the catwalk?
